ShadowCam PDS Archive

The archives include all the data collected by the instrument during the KPLO mission with new data released quarterly. Calibrated, map-projected versions of all images are available in Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) format, which can be used directly in most GIS software packages and converted to USGS ISIS format using GDAL. PDS-format versions of raw and calibrated unprojected image data are also available.

Search and View Data

The images and metadata are also accessible in the SER Data Portal web application. This application allows users to search, filter, and view the images in multiple ways, download various formats, and interact with them.

Calibration

The ShadowCam PDS archive includes calibrated products, but if you want to calibrate the raw data yourself, you can use the shadowcam_edr_cal software package downloaded from here. The package includes a copy of the calibration collection from PDS with all the calibration coefficients. If you want to be sure you are using the latest coefficients, simply replace the calibration directory in the shadowcam_edr_cal software with the calibration directory downloaded from the ShadowCam PDS archive.

The application compiles on most standard C platforms and has no dependencies beyond the standard C library. Run the application with no parameters for details on what command line parameters are available. Only the input and output filename must be specified to calibrate; all other options have sensible defaults.

Using Map Products

The ShadowCam archive includes Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) map-projected files for each observation at full resolution. Two versions of this product exist: one stretched into 8-bit for easy display as well as a version with the 32-bit values in radiance. These files are suitable for use in ArcMap, QGIS, and many other off-the-shelf GIS software packages. If you wish to use these products with the USGS ISIS software, we recommend using GDAL to convert the format.
